Key areas of collaboration include access to innovation methodologies and networks, the development and validation of technological prototypes, the promotion of technology-based projects with dual impact, the training of specialized teams, and the exploration of permanent opportunities for collaborative work between the two institutions.
With the aim of fostering the development of defense-related technological capabilities and promoting dual-use innovation (civilian–defense), the Chilean Army, through the Education and Doctrine Command (CEDOC), signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Know Hub Chile, an organization specializing in innovation and technology transfer.
The agreement will establish a framework for cooperation aimed at the joint development of applied research initiatives, open innovation, technology transfer, and institutional capacity building, thereby contributing to the advancement of technological solutions that address the Army’s strategic challenges through the Center for Research and Technological Innovation (CIITEC).
Key areas of collaboration include access to innovation methodologies and networks, the development and validation of technological prototypes, the promotion of technology-based projects with dual impact, the training of specialized teams, and the exploration of permanent opportunities for collaborative work between the two institutions.
In addition, the agreement provides for the design and implementation of technological challenges, as well as the development of projects related to artificial intelligence, automation, simulation, logistics sensors, and other priority areas aimed at strengthening institutional capacities.
Knowledge and Technology Transfer
The partnership will also facilitate collaboration with universities, research centers, startups, and public agencies, promoting the transfer of knowledge and technology toward specific applications of interest to national defense.
The agreement signing ceremony, held on Thursday, June 18, at CEDOC, was attended by the Commander of Education and Doctrine, Major General Gustavo Ellwanger Alvar, and the executive director of Know Hub Chile, Javier Ramírez Ramos.
The Commander of Education and Doctrine, Major General Gustavo Ellwanger Alvar, highlighted the importance of this agreement, noting: “For the Army, this collaboration is crucial, because the defense sector has technological needs that can benefit from the knowledge and innovations developed in the civilian sector.”
For his part, the executive director of Know Hub Chile stated that he is proud to sign an agreement with the Army, since “the goal of this agreement is to establish a platform for collaboration between science, defense, industry, and the government to foster dual-use innovation in Chile, promoting technologies that address the country’s strategic challenges and generate public value, productive development, and technological capabilities with national and international impact.”
